Pokhara trip cost: a real budget, with prices

What you pay for transport, sightseeing and activities, and where you can save.

Half-day car NPR 3,600Activities from NPR 3,500Day tours from US$ 40

What a Pokhara trip costs depends mostly on your hotel, how you get around and which activities you choose. Here are the prices we actually charge: a private car with a driver is NPR 3,600 for a half day or NPR 5,400 for a full day, the airport to Lakeside NPR 1,200, guided experiences from NPR 3,500 per person, tandem paragliding NPR 8,500 and day tours from US$ 40 per person. A car is priced per vehicle, so four people sharing it pay a quarter each.

Hotels and food

Lakeside has rooms for every budget, from simple family guesthouses to lake-view resorts, and the price you pay depends mostly on the season: October, November and the festival weeks are the dearest, and rooms are easier and cheaper from June to September. North Lakeside and Khapaudi are quieter; Begnas has a few calm lakeside resorts. We can suggest and book hotels for your budget (hotel arrangements).

Food is good value if you eat where locals eat: a plate of dal bhat or momos in a Nepali eatery costs far less than a meal in Lakeside’s tourist restaurants. Thakali set meals, lake fish and fresh juices are worth trying.

How to save money in Pokhara

  • Share the car: our vehicle prices are per vehicle, not per person.
  • Plan each day in one direction (north, south or east), so the car does not cross town twice. Our itineraries do this for you.
  • Walk Lakeside and the lake shore, and rent a boat for an hour instead of a whole morning.
  • Travel in February, March or early December: clear enough, and quieter than October.
  • Take the tourist bus to Kathmandu if you travel light and on a budget.
  • Groups of 7 or more save up to 10 percent on our trips and packages.
