Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Nepal’s southern lowlands, protects forests and grasslands that are home to the one-horned rhinoceros, gharial crocodiles, many deer species, elephants and, rarely seen, the Bengal tiger.
We drive from Pokhara to Sauraha on the park’s edge (about 4–5 hours). Over three days you join a jeep safari in the park, glide down the Rapti river by dugout canoe, walk in the community forest with a naturalist, visit the elephant breeding centre and spend an evening with Tharu culture.
Times are a guide; your driver and guide adjust them to the light, the weather and your pace.
