Valleys, villages & a high pass

Annapurna Circuit

A high-altitude trek requiring more preparation and schedule flexibility than a short Pokhara excursion.

Route shape

The eastern approach follows the Marsyangdi valley towards Manang. A classic circuit crosses Thorong La towards Muktinath, then continues or connects with road transport according to the plan.

Time and pace

Allow approximately 12–18 days for an initial road-supported plan, with deliberate acclimatisation and contingency days. Starting higher or driving further does not remove the need to acclimatise.

Difficulty

The high pass, long walking days and changing mountain conditions make this a demanding undertaking. A personal plan must account for experience and the possibility of delaying or not crossing.

Stays and road access

Village lodges and road segments vary along the route. Confirm current access on both sides before setting fixed transfer dates.

Vehicle support

Arrange approach and return transfers as part of the trek plan. A road itinerary and a trekking itinerary are different products; clarify exactly what is included.

Documentation: Nepal Tourism Board lists revised TIMS and licensed-guide provisions for specified routes, including several Annapurna treks. Requirements depend on your itinerary and nationality; confirm them with the agency and relevant authority. Read NTB guidance. For Annapurna conservation permits, see NTNC permit information.
